Bari, May 22 - By September the city of Bari in the southern Italian region of Puglia will have 146 new police officers, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano announced Wednesday. He spoke after a safety meeting of officials called after a triple murder last weekend in the city. The government wanted to make "an immediate response," said Alfano, who is also deputy premier. The new officers will arrive in two stages. Bari has been hit by problems related to violence, smuggling and mafia crime.
