Napolitano calls for economic recovery to employ youth

Rome, May 22 - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano called for economic recovery to help employ Italy's youth on Wednesday, in response to an annual report by Italian statistics agency Istat. Italy must "create the conditions for economic recovery that offers - especially to the youngest generations - concrete prospects of work in the context of sustainable and fair growth," Napolitano said in comments directed at Istat's assessment of the country. Italy has Europe's highest proportion of young people doing "nothing", with almost a third of 15-to-29-year-olds not in education, employment or training (NEET), the report said. Napolitano invited policymakers to examine the report deeply to inform measures that can be taken to ameliorate Italy's current economic and social ills.
