Unemployment in Italy needs tackling first, says Church

Rome, May 20 - The first emergency to be tackled in crisis-clutched Italy is the ailing labor market, head of the Italian bishops conference, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, said on Monday. Unemployment and the lack of work is "the most painful knife in the flesh of the people," Bagnasco said at an assembly of bishops in Rome. The emergency "demands immediate and effective remedies because the future is at stake every day," Bagnasco said.
