Brindisi, May 20 - A band of thieves used powerful means to uproot and steal self-service pumps and the money inside them from a petrol station in the southern Italian city of Brindisi before dawn on Monday. Police say a band of at least 10 burglars snatched roughly 50,000 euros in the heist, which targeted the service station of the Brindisi shopping mall Le Colonne. The gang blocked the highway with a large bus and trailer at about 3:00am, police said. Using a mechanical shovel, the thieves removed three out of four self-service pumps, then abandoned the heavy duty vehicle at the site. The whole operation took about seven-eight minutes.
