Fight gay discrimination says president on Homophobia Day

Rome, May 17 - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on Friday urged Italian citizens and lawmakers to wage a "constant" battle against homophobia. "Reporting (cases) and combatting homophobia must be a firm and constant commitment not only by the institutions but also by the whole of society," he said on International Anti-Homophobia Day. The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) was set up in 2004 to mark the day in 1990 when homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO).
