Berlusconi's party meets to increase pressure on IMU tax

(see related) Rome, May 15 - Cabinet ministers who belong to ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's center-right People of Freedom (PdL) party were ratcheting up pressure Wednesday to remove a hated property tax. Sources said that ministers and undersecretaries in the cabinet who belong to the PdL, held late meetings to discuss several issues including the IMU property tax. Although the tax is already on the table for a Friday cabinet meeting of the left-right government, that didn't seem enough for PdL leaders who campaigned on eliminating the tax and rebating 2012 payments to taxpayers. PdL leaders were also expected to discuss the tax in relation to industrial and agricultural products.
