Whip Snake found in ambulance engine

Perugia, May 15 - A one-meter long snake found in the engine of an ambulance in the Umbrian town of Bastia Umbra has been safely returned to its natural habitat, Italian forest rangers said on Wednesday. The harmless Whip Snake (Coluber viridiflavus) was seen entering the vehicle outside of the Umbriafiere trade show center by passersby, who then alerted the ambulance driver. Wildlife authorities said that it is common for snakes, when coming out of hibernation, to seek out food in gardens, parks and enter inhabited areas.
