IMU June payment put off but issue still hangs over govt

Rome, May 10 - The government on Thursday night put off a payment of unpopular property tax IMU from June to September but the issue still hangs over the government. Premier Silvio Berlusconi has vowed to uphold an election pledge to scrap the tax and pay back last year's proceeds. He has said he would bring down Enrico Letta's right-left government if this was not done. Berlusconi called Thursday's decision "a nice victory but not enough".
