(ANSA) – Rome, May 9 – A 50-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday in relation to the killing of 30-year old Alessandra Iacullo last Thursday in the Dragona neighbourhood of Ostia, a seaside town outside of Rome. The man had allegedly been romantically involved with the young woman, and prosecutors are investigating him for homicide. Iacullo was found stabbed and lying on a street in the Italian coastal town and later died from wounds to the neck. The killing may have taken place after a violent argument with the man, according to prosecution sources. Iacullo’s death is the latest in a series of violent female deaths to have plagued Italy. A third of women in Italy reported being victims of serious domestic violence, according to a 2012 UN report citing data from Italian statistics agency ISTAT. According to the report, 127 women were murdered by men in Italy in 2010, often as a result of "honor, men's unemployment or jealousy".
