Rome, May 9 - Comedian Beppe Grillo, leader of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, said on Thursday that Silvio Berlusconi should go to jail. Speaking a day after a Milan court upheld a four-year conviction against Berlusconi for tax fraud, Grillo also said his movement would vote in parliament for Berlusconi's ineligibility. "In any democratic country, Berlusconi would be in prison or would have been removed from any public role while here he tips the scale" of the left-right government, said Grillo, whose party won a surprising number of votes in a near three-way tie in February's elections. On Wednesday, a Milan court upheld a four-year conviction against Berlusconi on tax fraud charges on TV rights bought by his Mediaset TV empire, which the media magnate will appeal to the Court of Cassation, Italy's highest appeals court. He is also on trial in Milan over accusations he paid for sex with an underage Moroccan dancer, and is accused of abuse of office in the same case. The conviction upheld on Wednesday, which also bars Berlusconi from holding public office for five years and directive offices for three, "would have burnt out any British, German or American politician," said Grillo. "While here this guy passes himself off as a statesman. He makes statements and presents himself as a founding father of the country".
