Ex-premier Andreotti's death makes world-news headlines

Rome, May 6 - Monday's death of seven-time premier Giulio Andreotti made headlines around the world within minutes of its announcement in Italy. "Giulio Andreotti, one of the most prominent political figures of post-war Italy, has died," wrote the BBC. German dailies Die Welt and Suddeutsche Zeitung both described 94-year old Andreotti's death as the loss of "one of the most important politicians and political minds in Italy's history". In Latin America, Venezuelan daily paper El Universal called him "a key personality", as did the Brazilian paper Terra Brasil. Both Turkish daily Hurriyet and Thailand's Bangkok Post announced his death on their English version Websites. Andreotti's death was also announced by Abc News and the Chicago Tribune's online versions, along with Canada's Globe and Mail Web news.
