Letta completes govt team with undersecretaries

Rome, May 3 - Premier Enrico Letta has completed his unprecedented right-left government line-up with 40 junior ministers. The 30 undersecretaries and 10 deputy ministers were taken mostly from the ranks of the two main unnatural allies backing the reform government, Letta's own centre-left Democratic Party (PD) and ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's conservative People of Freedom (PdL) party. PD economist Stefano Fassina became a junior minister at the economy ministry despite his outstated Keynesian views on stoking growth by government spending in the recession, contrasting with some of the PdL's top economists. Fassina has also been at odds with the PD's more centrist rising star and touted future leader Matteo Renzi over ideas to reform the labour market. All the junior ministers, like their bosses, will take a pay cut as a nod to Italy's belt-tightening in the crisis.
