Third man being sought in acid attack on woman

Pesaro, April 29 - Police said on Monday that they are searching for a 31-year-old man suspected of being hired to throw acid in the face of a woman in her home near Pesaro, off the central Adriatic coast on April 16. Police believe that 35-year-old attorney Lucia Annibali was attacked by 31-year-old Rubin Talaban in her home who was hired by her ex-boyfriend Luca Varani, also a 35-year-old lawyer. Talaban is allegedly said to have waited inside her home together with another man hired for the attack, Altistin Precetaj, who ambushed her when she set foot inside. Annibali, despite the excruciating pain of the substance - believed to be sulfuric acid - managed to call for help and give the police promising leads for the investigation. The woman had previously reported her ex to authorities for abuse and unlawful entry. Neighbors said Varani was spotted recently trying to enter Annibali's apartment after she had changed the locks. Both Varani and Precetaj were arrested and are being held by police in Pesaro. Rome investigators searched Annibali's home on Monday to collect evidence.
