Soccer: Juve refuse to relax even with title in the bag

Rome, April 29 - Juventus have pledged they will not relax until the job is done even though they already have the Serie A title in the bag. Juve are one point from retaining the scudetto after late goals by midfielders Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio gave them a 2-0 win over city rivals Torino on Sunday to keep them 11 points clear of second-placed Napoli. A draw against relegation-threatened Palermo at their home ground in Turin will suffice for the celebrations to begin with three games to spare. "We could have settled for a draw, but instead we tried to win as we always do," said Conte after the Turin derby. "Now we just need one point. Winning the scudetto with three games remaining would be extraordinary. "However, I'll continue to hammer away at the players until we've won the title and they're fully aware of that". Conte has resurrected his former club since taking over in 2011 after a long unsuccessful period. The former Italy midfielder has given his side the determination, athleticism and tactical intelligence he had as a player. Many say the next challenge for the 43-year-old coach is for him to make his side contenders in the Champions League, after they were turfed out 4-0 on aggregate in the last 16 of Europe's premier club competition this season by Bayern Munich. In-form Chile international Vidal hinted that this is already on the players' minds. "We still have to improve. You always need to and that's what we want to do, because our aim is to win everything." Vidal said. Juventus are Italy's most successful side on the domestic front and this season's title will be their 29th. For the Turin side and their fans, however, the tally will be 31 as they also count the two championship crowns Juve were stripped of in 2006 for involvement in the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal. AC Milan and Inter are their nearest rivals, with 18 Serie A titles apiece. The Milanese clubs are more successful in Europe though. Milan have been crowned European champions seven times and inter three times. Juve have been European champions twice, in 1985 and 1996.
