Osservatore Romano urges Letta to continue with reforms

Vatican City, April 24 - The Vatican newspaper is urging Italy's new premier to continue to enforce economic and fiscal reforms. "Faced with the need to achieve measures to combat the economic crisis and unemployment, while still keeping the public accounts in balance, it is essential that those who take the responsibility to govern the country do it without the temptation to step back, pushed by the fear of disappointing their constituencies," the Osservatore Romano said in its Wednesday edition. The article came at the same time President Giorgio Napolitano gave Enrico Letta of the Democratic Party (PD) the mandate to form a new government. The newspaper also urged unity among parties to give Italy a solid government at a time of economic hardship.
