Rome, April 22 - Berlin on Monday praised Italian President Giorgio Napolitano after he was re-elected head of state at the weekend. Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said that the German government held Napolitano in high consideration for his personal profile and for his work in the international arena. Napolitano will try to get Italy's parties to reach an agreement to form a new government and end two months of political deadlock following February's inconclusive general election after being elected for a second term Saturday. "Italy is in an atypical, difficult situation," said Seibert. Napolitano is set to be sworn in at the Lower House at 17:00 Italian time. The 87-year-old is the first Italian president to be re-elected.
