Security guard kills ex-wife in car chase near Rome

Rome, April 19 - A security guard has shot and killed his ex-wife during a car chase outside Rome. Police said the chase took place late Thursday and ended when the culprit fired six shots from his work-issued Beretta through the woman's vehicle windows, causing it to swerve to a halt. The culprit then turned the gun on himself but the bullet passed through his skull without killing him, police said. He was in critical condition Friday. The woman, who died in transit to the hospital, was the latest victim of femicide in Italy. More cases have been exposed since a report issued in December showed that over 70% of the women murdered in Italy are killed by a partner, an ex-partner or a lover.
