(see related stories) Rome, April 19 - Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right People of Freedom (PdL) party is considering adopting Interior Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri as its candidate to be Italy's next president. The PdL is furious at the Democratic Party's decision to propose two-time centre-left premier Romano Prodi to be the head of state. The PdL may opt for Cancellieri as an alternative to Prodi after speaking to outgoing Premier Mario Monti's Civic Choice party. Cancellieri is one of the unelected technocrats that have served in Monti's emergency administration since November 2011. "Yesterday there was a meeting between Civic Choice and the PdL and it was proposed that we agree on Cancellieri," said PdL Senator Maurizio Gasparri. "We'll assess this later. We are interested in part for the future in order to be able to open a dialogue for an alternative alliance to the left". Italy has never had a woman president.
