Gabanelli and Amato neck-and-neck for president, say bookies

Rome, April 17 - Bookies on Wednesday said that TV presenter and investigative journalist Milena Gabanelli was neck-and-neck with former premier Giuliano Amato to become Italy's next president. Amato, two-time premier who helped draft the new EU Constitution is slated at 1.80, while Gabanelli, the candidate of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S), is quoted at 1.90 at Betpassion. They were followed by Franco Marini, former union leader and ex-Senate Speaker at 2.0, along with former Democratic Party (PD) leader and ex-premier Massimo D'Alema and constitutional lawyer, ex-head of Italy's privacy watchdog, and former PD MP Stefano Rodota'. Former center-left premier and former European Commission head Romano Prodi calculated in at 2.50 and former EU commissioner Emma Bonino of the Radical Party lost footing, slated at 2.70. War-zone doctor Gino Strada, founder of the NGO Emergency, who came second to Gabanelli in the M5S online poll, was quoted at 3.0.
