'Road of the Pope' tours to show Francis' family history

Turin, April 16 - A tourist itinerary following in the footsteps of Pope Francis' Italian family will take pilgrims and travellers through Piedmont locations where the Bergoglio family originates. The 'Strada del Papa' or 'Road of the Pope' offers package tours lasting four to eight days with visits to the farms, churches, fields and hills 'of Pope Francis', including the hilltop village of Asti, the birthplace of the pontiff's grandfather. The tours are coordinated by the bureau of tourism for the town of Asti and are part of a broader itinerary celebrating the 200-year birthday anniversary of 19th-century Catholic educational and social reformer St John Bosco, known as Don Bosco, who was born August 16, 1815 in Castelnuovo d'Asti. Seven towns will participate - Asti, Portacomaro, Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Celle Enomondo, Moriondo, San Martino Alfieri and Castell'Alfero.
