Rome, April 15 - People of Freedom (PdL) party Senate whip Maurizio Gasparri said on Monday that ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi could be the PdL candidate to replace outgoing President Giorgio Napolitano as head of state. "Berlusconi has all the right qualities to be a useful president," Gasparri said on news program Tgcom24, one of the Berlusconi channels. However, Gasparri's sally was widely seen as merely provocative since the ex-premier and media magnate has no chance of garnering the cross-party support needed to become president. On Tuesday, the candidate for Beppe Grillo's 5-Star Movement candidate will be announced after online voting closes. Napolitano's seven-year term ends in the middle of May.
