Rome mayor sues TV show on mafia claims

Rome, April 15 - Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno on Monday sued a top investigative TV show after it reported that the Naples Camorra mafia and Rome crime gangs had infiltrated municipal businesses and work on a new subway line. Alemanno claimed the show, Report, was repeating media claims which the Rome council had refuted. He said he was suing "the people responsible for Report" and State broadcaster RAI. Alemanno recently denied claims he might be linked to a bribery case involving the supply of buses. Report is produced and presented by Milena Gabanelli, one of Italy's most highly regarded journalists, who has been touted by Beppe Grillo's anti-establishment 5-Star Movement as a candidate for the Italian presidency.
