IMU among challenges facing Italian families

Revising property tax seriously considered, 'wise man' says

Rome, April 12 - Revising Italy's unpopular IMU property tax "was seriously considered when it comes to an owner's first home," said Giovanni Pitruzzella, one of 10 'wise men' appointed by the president to cross party lines and find common platforms to forging a government in Italy. The competition authority head was on a panel devoted to finding measures to ease Italy's painful recession and keep it in line with EU commitments. The 10 men issued a set of proposals Friday, one of which said Italy's tax system should be overhauled to provide more support for families. Italy has been without a government since elections in late February produced no clear winner and parties since have been unable to compromise.
