Confindustria chief says Italian economy in 'perfect storm'

Italian employers' association chief Giorgio Squinzi called for business owners and workers to unite forces to combat the "perfect storm" the Italian economy finds itself in, during a radio interview on Thursday. "We all need to row in the same direction", Confindustria head Squinzi told Radio Anch'io. "We are all in the same boat". Squinzi, who warned of social unrest in the eurozone's third-largest economy on Wednesday, added that trade unions' and business leaders' sense of responsibility has never been so big and so united. The leader also called for an immediate appointment of a government, saying he did not think delaying the confused political outcome of the February 24-25 general elections until autumn would be beneficial. We need a government "of men of good will that have the interests of the nation at heart, and who allow it to exit from the shifting sands", Squinzi said. "We cannot afford to wait until the autumn". On Wednesday Squinzi warned of risks of possible violence on the streets if the absence of the government continues, also pointing to the 62 entrepreneurs that had committed suicide to date as a result of the economic crisis.
