Police investigating if 50-year old committed suicide

National FS ceremony cancelled after man killed by train

Rome, April 11 - A ceremony in Rome of state railway employees to celebrate a new train service was cancelled on Thursday after a man was struck and killed by a high-speed train in the capital, the state railway FS said. However, Italian President Giorgio Napolitano said he would still attend a rally in the capital's Piazza del Popolo since railway workers had come from "around the country" to gather for the event. The death of the worker killed while crossing the tracks at Rome's Tiburtina train station is being investigated after conflicting reports from witnesses led police to suspect suicide. The 50-year-old man, who was employed by a wagon cleaning service, was struck by a high-speed Frecciarossa train arriving from Milan to Rome.
