Grillo blasts Bersani, Berlusconi's 'democracy deficit'

Rome, April 11 - Firebrand 5-Star Movement (M5S) founder Beppe Grillo lashed out against center-left leader Pier Luigi Bersani and center-right head Silvio Berlusconi accusing the two of having a "democracy deficit". Grillo was referring to the hour-long meeting Bersani and Berlusconi held on Tuesday that they said was just "the starting point" to discuss Italy's next president and other issues. "The bed and breakfast couple, Bersani and Berlusconi, decide the president in secret rooms excluding virtually all popular participation," Grillo said on his movement's blog. The M5S on Thursday launched an online vote to select its candidate to be the successor to President Giorgio Napolitano, whose seven-year term ends next month. The vote is open to M5S members who signed on before December 31, 2012.
