Shop owners complain that new traffic controls bad for business

Ambulance called after injuries during Naples protest

Naples, April 10 - An ambulance was called to treat minor injuries after firecrackers added to the stress Wednesday morning outside city hall as protesting shop-owners complained about tough new traffic restrictions in Naples' city centre. Two protesters were treated for minor injuries and police struggled to keep order amidst the demonstration that snarled traffic and confused tourists. Merchants carrying signs, blowing whistles and chanting, showed their anger over plans to tightly control traffic in Naples city centre. They fear that traffic restrictions will hurt business in a city and region already hit hard by recession.
