Rubbish protesters halt lorries at waste plant south of Rome

(ANSA) Colfelice, April 5 - Protesters in the Ciociaria region between Rome and Naples on Friday halted lorries taking rubbish from the capital to be treated in a local waste plant. More than 100 people gathered outside the plant at Colfelice near Frosinone to stop the Rome rubbish trucks getting in, in the latest in a series of protests. Rome has too much waste to process and has decided to send some to plants and dumps in other parts of Lazio, where residents, fearful of environmental effects, have said they will not pass.
