Italian house prices down again in fourth quarter of 2012

(see related story on consumer spending) Rome, April 4 - House and apartment prices in recession-hit Italy fell for the fifth consecutive quarter in the last three months of 2012, when they dropped 1.5% with respect to the July-September period, Istat said Thursday. The national statistics agency added that house prices were 4.6% lower between October and December last year than they were in the same period of 2011. Istat said that, on average, the price of a house sold last year was 2.7% lower than in 2011. It said the average price of "existing houses" was 4.7% down, but the price for newly built homes that have never been lived in was up by 2.1%.
