Fiat records jump in March sales helped by Panda and Punto

Rome, April 2 - Italian carmaker Fiat on Tuesday said its March sales jumped 5.3% on the same period a year ago to just under 38,000 units. The March figure was the highest since June 2012, the company said in a statement, and marks a turning point after several months of consecutive sales declines. In February the group's sales slid almost 17% on February 2012 levels, while overall in the first three months of 2013 total sales of the group's Italian brands - Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo - are still down by 9.3% on the year-ago period, at 103,086 units. The company's new 500L was the best-selling mid-size in Italy in March, the company said, pointing out that the Panda, Punto, Ypsilon and 500L were the top four sellers overall in the month.
