Government expected to clarify timing for fiscal measures

Rome, April 2 - Italian government officials will meet on Tuesday to clarify fiscal issues including 40 billion euros in debt payments. Their meeting was expected to set out a time line for the payments as well as tax measures. The finance minister last week told a special parliamentary committee that the first debt payments will go to private-sector companies, which should produce economic stimulus by mid-year. The debt payments will be equally divided over two years. The measure is intended to help companies dealing with a credit crunch as well as Italy's lingering recession.
