Italy must address freedom of press

Grillo says M5S plans to slash public financing to the press

Rome, March 29 - Anti-establishment 5-Star Movement leader Beppe Grillo said Friday his party plans to abolish public financing to the press, adding that any planned reforms need to take into account the fact that Italy is in 60th place in freedom of the press rankings. ''We will remove financing, both direct and indirect'', Grillo said. ''We will never be able to carry out a democratic reform, or at least it will take us a lot longer, if we don't understand why we are listed in position 60 in terms of freedom of the press''. Grillo also slammed journalists for allegedly releasing the address of his family, who he said were "in danger".
