Police sweep Ischia ahead of Merkel visit

Rome, March 29 - Italian police made a security sweep of the Naples bay island of Ischia Friday ahead of an annual Easter visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Bomb squads and sniffer dogs combed the picturesque 'borgo' (hamlet) of Sant'Angelo in the centre of the famed isle where Merkel and her husband, German quantum physicist Joachim Sauer, have been spending their spring break around Easter for years. The chancellor is expected to arrive later Friday.
