Suspected separatists kill 8 in Italian-owned Kenya casino

Rome, March 28 - Eight people were killed when 50 machete-wielding suspected separatists struck an Italian-owned casino popular with tourists and local Italian residents in the coastal Kenyan town of Malindi early on Thursday morning, police said. Officers shot dead six of the attackers, allegedly members of banned coastal separatist group Mombasa Republican Council (MRC). Two policeman were also killed, police told Reuters news agency in Mombasa. The MRC is thought to have targeted the Italian-owned casino to steal cash to fund their activities.
