CEI urges politicians to form 'stable' government

Bersani meets with Italian Bishop's Conference head

Rome, March 26 - Center-left leader Pier Luigi Bersani met with Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, president of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI) on Tuesday, during a day of talks with political leaders aimed at forming a government to break Italy's political stalemate. "It is urgent that the country has a stable government," Bagnasco's secretary Msgr Mariano Crociata said. Crociata said that the meeting was at the request of Bersani. Last week, CEI urged politicians trying to form a government despite a hung parliament to put together "the most stable team possible" to keep recession-hit Italy in good fiscal shape while boosting growth and helping the needy "who are seeing their situation getting dangerously worse".
