Kercher sister sheds tears of happiness over court ruling

(see related stories) Rome, March 26 - The sister of murdered British Erasmus student Meredith Kercher wept tears of joy on Tuesday after Italy's supreme Court of Cassation overturned the acquittal of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito and ordered a new appeal trial. ''I am happy and I want to understand,'' Stephanie Kercher told the lawyer representing the family, Francesco Maresca. Italy's supreme court on Tuesday scrapped the 2011 decision of Perugia's appeals court to quash the conviction of Knox and Sollecito for the 2007 murder in Perugia. At the original trial in 2009 the former couple were handed sentences of 26 and 25 years respectively.
