Buenos Aires opens probe into suspicious Italian death

Buenos Aires, March 25 - Police in Buenos Aires are investigating the suspicious death of an Italian businessman, originally dismissed as a suicide. Mirco Zampieri, 61, a former manager of the famous Harry's Bar in Venice, was found dead of a gunshot wound to his head on January 4 in the apartment where he lived with his wife and daughter in the capital of Argentina. Prosecutors said Monday that "irregularities" in the case prompted them to move jurisdiction from federal to municipal authorities. That includes gun powder remains found on the victim and others who were in the apartment at the time of Zampieri's death, said prosecutor Martin Lopez Perrando. Local newspaper La Nacion also reported Monday that inconsistencies were found in connection with the firearm and bullets found at the scene.
