Italy's employers say uncertainty may extend recession

Rome, March 21 - Italy's ongoing recession risks being further extended due to the uncertainty currently clouding the eurozone's third-largest economy, according to Italy's employers association Confindustria. Unemployment fell a further 0.4%, or by a total of 97,000 jobs, in the month of January compared to the previous month, the research unit of Confindustria said, after some 123,000 positions had been lost in the previous two months. ''This is a reversal of the trend of job sustainability that had existed from the middle of 2010 through almost all of 2012'', Confindustria said. In January, unemployment jumped 11.7% compared with the previous month's 11.3%.
