Bout with uveitis blamed for missing prostitution hearing

Doctor confirms Berlusconi's eye condition

Rome, March 8 - Silvio Berlusconi's doctor confirmed that the ex-premier had an eye condition, which defence lawyers said was an impediment to his attending a Milan trial for having sex with an underage prostitute. "At this point in time...he is recovering in the ophthalmology ward where he is undergoing treatment," said Dr. Alberto Zangrillo, who added that Berlusconi would be staying overnight. Berlusconi was taken to Milan's San Raffaele hospital Friday for an eye problem just as judges were considering his request to skip a hearing due to a case of uveitis, or irritation of the eye. A prosecutor called for an official medical verification.
