Pope serene in knowledge of doing good job, spokesman says

Vatican City, February 27 - "Today there was a climate of great emotion but at the same time of great serenity," Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said on Wednesday, referring to the last general audience given by Benedict XVI, who steps down as pope on Thursday. Lombardi noted that television cameras recorded "an extremely serene and smiling pope's face". "I saw him serene with the knowledge of having done a good job" even after the general audience, concluded Lombardi.
