Centre left takes Lazio, Molise, centre right Lombardy

Milan, February 27 - The centre left triumphed in two out of the three regional government elections held in Italy on Sunday and Monday, taking Lazio and Molise, according to final vote counts released on Wednesday. In Lombardy, the region around Milan, Northern League leader Roberto Maroni - the interior minister in Silvio Berlusconi's 2008-2011 administration - won for the centre right with 42.8% of the vote. Lombardy's centre-left candidate Umberto Ambrosoli got 38.2%. In Lazio, the region around Rome, the centre left got 40.6% of the vote, elevating Nicola Zingaretti to the governor's seat, while the centre-right's Francesco Storace garnered just 29.4%. The southern region of Molise saw the centre left's Paolo Di Laura Frattura win 43.7% of the vote, versus 26.7% for the centre-right's Angelo Michele Iorio. photo: Roberto Maroni
