Grillo wants online vote for next president

Genoa, February 26 - Voting for the next Italian president will be done online if the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) has its way, M5S leader Beppe Grillo posted on his blog Tuesday. Comedian Grillo's M5S claimed 25.55% of the votes for the House in Sunday and Monday's national elections and took a total of 162 seats across both chambers of parliament, more than any other individual party. "For president of the republic, I would like Dario Fo. He is a Nobel prize winner with great lucidity. He is an open mind and we need open minds," Grillo told journalists in Genoa, his home city. Fo, 86, has been celebrated abroad but has had to face fierce conservative criticism at home. Fo, a prominent Grillo supporter, is known for his social satire and tragi-comic but fierce political theatre - exemplified by his most famous works, Mistero Buffo (1969) and The Accidental Death of an Anarchist (1970). He and his wife Franca Rame were banned from state broadcaster RAI for 15 years starting in 1962 after protesting the network's censorship of some of their more political work.
