Soccer: Gattuso made player-coach of Sion

Rome, February 25 - Former Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed player-coach of FC Sion, the Swiss club said Monday. Victor Munoz was stripped of his position as head coach following Sion's 4-0 defeat to FC Thun in the Swiss Super League on Sunday. "Following Sion's disastrous showing against FC Thun and the lack of effort of the team, the club's board have decided to make the players face their responsibilities," Sion said. "From now until further notice, they will take charge of their own affairs. The club entrusts the responsibility for the group to its captain Gennaro Gattuso". Gattuso, a member of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning team, joined Sion at the start of the season after 13 seasons with AC Milan.
