Berlusconi to skip PdL campaign closer for health reasons

Rome, February 22 - Due to health reasons, Silvio Berlusconi will not attend his center-right party's convention on Friday in Naples to mark the close of his campaign before elections starting this weekend. According to sources from his People of Freedom (PdL) party, the media magnate is suffering from a bout of conjunctivitis, or pink eye. The party figurehead, who is hoping to return to government for the fourth time after elections Sunday and Monday, will send a greeting via video link, sources said. According to the latest polls taken before a mandatory blackout period, Berlusconi's center-right coalition was only a few percentage points behind the frontrunner center-left bloc headed by Pier Luigi Bersani.
