Italy skipper insulted ref after Stade Francais red card

Rugby: Parisse out of Six Nations with 30-day ban

Paris, February 20 - Italy's inspirational captain Sergio Parisse is out of the Six Nations after the French rugby league gave him a 30-day ban Wednesday for insulting the referee when he was sent off while playing for Stade Francais against Bordeaux Saturday. The 29-year-old Argentine-born number 8, who has 93 caps, will miss the Azzurri's games against Wales in Rome Saturday, England at Twickenham on March 10 and Ireland back at the Stadio Olimpico March 16. The talismanic skipper, nominated for IRB Player of the Year in 2008, scored the first try in Italy's shock win at home to France in their Six Nations opener on February 9. With Parisse out, Italy coach Jacques Brunel has called veteran flanker Mauro Bergamasco into the squad to face Wales. The 33-year-old was left out for the games against France and Scotland. Italy upset France 23-18 in Rome but were beaten 34-10 by Scotland at Murrayfield on February 9. The Azzurri are fifth in the Six Nations table, two points ahead of pointless France and two behind leaders England.
