Berlusconi ally slams claims of Finmeccanica kickbacks

Maroni claims mud-slinging 'terrorism' agst League

Rome, February 19 - Northern League leader Roberto Maroni on Tuesday claimed his regionalist party was the target of mud-slinging linked to a corruption probe at defence giant Finmeccanica that amounted to "terrorism". Finmeccanica CEO Giuseppe Orsi, seen as close to the League, quit earlier this month after being arrested in a probe into alleged bribes for a helicopter deal with India involving Finmeccanica's copter unit AgustaWestland. Maroni told ANSA hostile media outlets had made "insinuations of kickbacks or funding to the League linked to the Orsi-Finmeccanica affair". "The constant (feature) of this election campaign is the mud-slinging machine...It is an act of terrorism," the key ally of centre-right leader and ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi said.
