Cardinals to have communication shut down during conclave

Rome, February 15 - Telephones, mobile phones and all forms of communication for Cardinals voting during the conclave to elect the new pope in mid-March will be blocked as soon as voting begins. According to the apostolic constitution Universi Dominici Gregis (The Lord's Whole Flock), written by Pope John Paul II in 1996, there must be absolute discretion when electing a new pope. Lines within the Vatican City walls where the cardinals will be lodged and the Sistine Chapel where voting will take place will be rendered completely inaccessible. The Vatican guards will be responsible for enforcing the rule.
