Italian businessman commits suicide over failed contract

Frosinone, February 4 - An Italian businessman hanged himself in the workplace after his company lost an important contract, the latest in a stream of suicides being linked to the Italian recession. The man, 62, reportedly feared for his job after his company lost a major contract, and was also concerned for his son, another employee. Investigators are studying two letters that have led them to believe the man's actions were work-related. Italy has seen in steady rise in the rate of suicides in the past year amid its economic crisis. The deaths have often involved indebted small-business owners and the unemployed, as well as people struggling with steeply rising tax bills.
