MPS could be nationalized if it can't repay government loan

Rome, January 29 - Italian Economy Minister Vittorio Grilli on Tuesday hinted that troubled lender Monte dei Paschi di Siena could face nationalization if the bank fails to reimburse a 3.9-billion-euro government bailout. During a parliamentary hearing, Grill said that if the bank were to fail to reimburse the so-called ''Monti Bond'' government loan, ''considering the current price of MPS shares, the Treasury's stake would increase to 82% of the bank's capital.''
