European markets rise on ECB loan data

Milan, January 25 - Markets rose across Europe on Friday as stocks were boosted by positive German business confidence data and banks' loan-repayment figures for the eurozone. Italy's Ftse Mib index bucked the trend with its 0.2% drop, dragged down by Pirelli and Saipem. German business confidence advanced for the third month in January, rising to 104.2 from 102.4 in December, the highest levels since June last year. The Ifo institute's business sentiment survey is based on indications provided by some 7,000 managers. In a separate report, the European Central Bank showed 278 lenders are to repay 137.2 billion euros next week, higher than the amounts estimated by many analysts. The yield spread between 10-year Italian bonds and the German benchmark bund, a barometer of Italy's borrowing costs in the eurozone crisis, closed at 249 points with 10-year yields at 4.1%. The Paris Cac 40 Index closed up 0.7% to 3,778 points. Madrid's Ibex index advanced 0.7% to 8,724 points. London's Ftse-100 stock market advanced 0.3 % to 6,284 points.
